Automotive Technology

As a student in the Automotive Technology program, you will learn the basics of computer diagnosis for automotive repair as well as traditional tool usage for the entire repair process: evaluating, repairing, and maintaining vehicles. As you progress through the program you will gain the skills necessary to earn nationally recognized certification, gain entry level employment, or enroll in an Automotive Technology Program in college.

How to Participate

College and Career Academy Application

8th Graders who want to participate in a College and Career Academy, should apply by December 14, 2012.

Freshmen who are attending a school with a College and Career Academy or CTE School Option program who wish to participate should speak with their counselor.

Automotive Technology Courses

Automotive Technology I

This is the first course in a three-year sequence related to the Automotive Technology industry. You will demonstrate the proper and safe usage of the tools and equipment of the trade. You will apply mathematics and measuring skills in order to analyze engine measurement and design. You will have the opportunity to investigate engine performance, tune-up procedures, electrical system performance and diagnosis, computer controlled fuel systems, throttle body injection and multi?point fuel injection. You will develop proficiency in computer systems and technology related to the industry and set the foundation for competencies and skills required for certification and credentialing in Automotive Technology.

Automotive Technology II

The Automotive Technology II course is a training level course designed to expand the knowledge and skills you mastered in Automotive Technology I. You will participate in project-based learning to perform the process of preparation for new vehicles and to learn how to effectively service a vehicle. You will utilize technology to service suspension parts, rebuild steering columns, remove and replace rack and pinion steering assemblies, remove and replace heater cores, etc. You will also gain the skills needed to effectively inspect a vehicle.

Automotive Technology III

This is the final course in a three-year course sequence. Upon completion of this course, you will be prepared for an entry-level position in the automotive trades as a mechanic or technician. You will focus the skills that you gained in Automotive Technology I and II to prepare for specialization in; engine rebuilding, chassis, wheel alignment, wheel and tire servicing, air conditioning and heating, automotive electronics and computer controls. You will prepare and participate in a final capstone project which will support your mastery of the skills necessary to achieve Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification.
